A Great Friend that I have never even met

Do you have great relationships with people that you have never met in real life before?
I do. Ok, its not really relationships its more relationship.
I work for a huge company and we have office in just about every state, and even in most large cities of every state. One of the key groups that I used to work with before my promotion back in February was located in St. Louis, MO. I worked really closely with a girl named Mary Anne. We emailed and talked almost daily about work stuff, and then we started to get to know one another through little stories, antic dotes, and inside jokes.
After I was promoted, my work with Mary Anne ended. But we still kept emailing and talking. We actually email all day long. We basically have an on going conversation from the moment each of us gets to work. I get to work, log on, and she emails me first thing every morning, and then we just start having a conversation that just happens to last all day.
I actually had the chance to meet my friend Mary Anne about a month ago. She was going on vacation and had a 3 hour lay over in Dallas, and we decided to meet up and go out for lunch. It was great fun, but a little weird. When she got in my car, she just started laughing and said it was so weird to talk to me face to face. I can't lie, it was totally awkward. While we were eating, I told her I felt like we were on a really awkward first date. But, it ended up getting better.
Today, we are at a point that we email and text daily, and even chat on the phone about once or twice a week. Its weird to me to have someone that I actually consider to be a close friend, someone that I have only spent about 3 hours with.
Is that weird?
In this day and age, I know the Internet connects us like never before, but sometimes it blows my mind how connected we really are.

One thing about Mary Anne and I is that we are brutally honest with each other. We don't beat around the bush, but our friendship has this almost unspoken pact that no matter the circumstance, its always going to be 100% honesty. No sugar coating, no beating around the bush, just the cold hard truth. Is it because we don't have to actually face each other every day that we can have this really authentic friendship? Is it because we have the freedom to retract? Is it because we are hundreds of miles away, and we can stare at a computer screen, and be honest through this medium?

Honestly, I don't know. I do know that I value her friendship and that I hope to continue growing our friendship.

Weight in please, I would love your thoughts. What do you think about digital friendships? Have you ever met someone online and become friends?

Pillow Talk, second edition

Where: bed

When: last night

Who: Her and Him

Situation: her exhausted and going to bed and the late hour of 9:10. Him, not tired, and messing with her.

Him: come on, fight back, why are you so tired

Her: because I get up so early

Him: stay up come on

Her: I WANT TO GO TO BED

him: hey, no pinching

Her: I'm not pinching you

Him: then what do you call what your doing

Her: it's called pulling out your arm hair, not pinching

Him: stop it

Her: (in a fit of laughter) leave me alone, or I will pee on your side of the bed. I'm not scared to use my urine as a weapon.

Him: (stopping the tickling) I know you would.

A Good Visit

Last weekend, these good people drove up . That would be Mom and Dad livesimply-livewell. FYI they are awesome.

The drove up to help us do this. That would be celebrate our new purchase. And bring us some much needed home items that they wanted to give us.
They brought us a desk, dresser, chest of drawers, lawn mower, weed eater, and edger. Then they spent ALL flippin' day with us on Saturday picking out curtains.

Have any of you ever purchased curtains on a budget before? Its totally frustrating and exhausting. We argued, we talked, we bickered, we purchased, we returned, we purchased some more, we returned some more. O my gosh, by the end of the day you would have thought that I had been shipped off to Nam, because I was so tired.

Thanks momsicle and popsicle for coming all the way up here and for spending the weekend with us! Love you guys!

Look dad, I told you I would put you on the blog. Now you have to figure out how to comment...and mom, don't do it for him.

DARTing Around Town

Since moving to our house, it has been pretty inconvenient driving to work. We are a bit further North than we used to be, and we are near a really packed highway.

The solution--the Dart light rail! The DART is our local mass transit system and its awesome! The train station is about 5 minutes away and it drops me off a block away from my office. I have to leave about 20 minutes earlier to get to work on time, but I get home at least 30 minutes earlier than I would if I drove.

Everyday I pop in my ipod, grab my book and read for the half hour. We have been saving on our gas bill, and I used to spend around 120.00 a month on tolls driving back and forth to work.

I have never been able to take mass transit before, and I like it. There are some hiccups every now and then that make for some pretty interesting stories. For example, I got yelled at by a crazy person the other day as I walked past him at the depot. I sat across from a woman my grandmothers age reading the book "Naked Dragon." I have run a little late and had to sprint through downtown Dallas, darting around other commuters, and running through traffic.

Do you have a good mass transit system where you live? Do you take mass transit to work? Any commuting tips?
